Jessore Airport is one of the domestic airports in Bangladesh. It is the oldest airport in the country. Located in Jessore city, this airport operates domestic routes. The airport is operated and maintained by the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority.

Location:

This airport is located 6 km north of Jessore city. The distance of this airport from the capital Dhaka is 140 kilometers.

History:

During the Second World War, in 1942, the British government took the initiative to set up air bases in different parts of the country and started the construction of an air base in Jessore. The airport was commissioned six months after its completion. The base was in operation until 1945.

Later, after the partition of India in 1950, the Pakistan Army built an air base here. Then in 1956 it was decided to open a full fledged airport in Jessore. However, the airport officially launched in 1980.

Activities:

This airport is the only aircraft training center in the country. Besides, Bangladesh Air Force is also using it as part of Bangladesh Air Force Base Matiur Rahman, Jessore. The runway of this airport is designed to handle any type of flight. Therefore, the airport is used for domestic passenger flights, including military flights.

This airport started its Dhaka-Jessore route with only two flights of Bangladesh Biman. At present, a total of nine public-private passenger flights ply here daily. The number of passengers at this airport is increasing day by day. The airport handles an average of one and a half to two thousand passengers daily.

Moving planes:

From this airport Biman Bangladesh Airlines, NovoAir and US Bangla Airlines operate their flights on Dhaka-Jessore route. Regent Airways, a private airline, also operated flights from the airport. But currently the airline has suspended their flight.

Besides, 5-6 cargo flights are also operating regularly from this airport. These cargo planes come and go from Cox’s Bazar every day with shrimp fry.

The flight from Shahjalal International Airport takes only 40 minutes to reach this airport. You can buy flight tickets from Dhaka to Jessore from any airline office. Tickets can also be purchased from the website. If you want to get a discount, you can also buy a ticket from a travel agency.
